The Half Moon Beach Total Experience Day Trip

3 Centuries of History – 20 minutes from Negril

Visit, relax, and be prepared to be amazed!

At a leisurely pace, you will visit The Abingdon Estate Great House, Half Moon Beach and Calico Jack’s Pirate island.

10 am: arrival at The Abingdon Estate Great house

Abingdon Estate Great House Was Founded in 1674 as a Fortified Sugar Plantation.

The fortification was required as The Spanish and The Pirates were plying the shores of Jamaica plundering as they went. The Great House and plantation yard sit high upon a hill facing the sea. During plantation times it was terraced to the sea in Sugar Cane. Along the walls there were cannons facing the bay at the ready – you can still see where the cannons were mounted.

On the grounds there is a 350-year-old Sugar Mill, missing only the working parts. The original structure is intact as is the lay of the land surrounding the plantation House, original walls, The ‘Great House’ that Andrew’s Grandmother constructed on 350-year-old rum cellar foundations, and more.

Andrew Marr, the present owner, and his family have been stewards of the property from the 1930s when Andrew’s grandparents acquired ownership upon their marriage.

When Andrew tells the story of Abingdon Estate, including going back 600 years to the time of the original inhabitants, the past comes alive.

Next Stop Half Moon Beach for a chill-ating moment

Half Moon Beach was founded in 1990 by proprietor Andrew Marr and several friends with nothing more than a dream, passion and determination. The concept, which still holds true today, is simple; come see Jamaica and its natural beauty without the haste and hustle of the main tourist areas.

Our property is still in its natural state with some of the most beautiful undisturbed coral reefs on the island. Bring your snorkelling gear and check out the reef or simply enjoy ‘a day at the beach’.

Followed by Lunch in The Garden Pavilion.

Lunch will be served in our garden pavilion. All meals are prepared fresh with local seasonal products. You will have a choice of chicken or fish with rice and peas, coleslaw and macaroni salad (typical Jamaican meal) and includes a complimentary rum punch.

Then – Take a boat ride to Calico Jack’s Pirate Shack (weather permitted)

Calico Jack’s is a short boat ride from Half Moon Beach. Calico Jack’s is also Negril’s only Island bar.

Both boarding and exiting the boat is done in shallow water. There are Boat Staff specifically on board to assist guests. They will aid your transition to and from the boat. After that, it is a few simple steps to the beach – with which we would gladly give assistance if it is required. I advise everybody to wear water shoes for your additional comfort.
